Amla Juice

If one has ever wondered what one could do to swiftly improve one’s immune system, and keep it well prepared for responding to possible viral attacks, there is hardly any natural dietary supplement better for that purpose than Amla juice.

Amla Juice

In fact, according to one review, after the Barbados Cherry, Amla is the second richest natural source of vitamin C, containing approximately 600 to 700 milligrams per fruit! And when juiced, it makes for one of the most concentrated natural forms of this micronutrient for human consumption.

In one animal study, feeding Amla to rats on a high-fructose diet increased their levels of certain key proteins involved in metabolism. This could help prevent fructose-induced fatty liver disease, and reduce belly fat as well.

Agreed, Amla juice may not be as appealing to most of our tongues as chilled watermelon juice, but there are some complimentary ingredients to add to it that can really elevate the taste! Namely, ginger, roasted cumin and honey; and perhaps black salt too if that works for you. The addition of honey actually also counterbalances the strong cooling property of Amla.

After cutting and pitting a handful of Amlas, which are quite easily available in season locally, put them in a blender along with ½ to 1 cup of water (depending on desired concentration), at this point one may also add a little sliced ginger and a pinch of roasted cumin seeds if one so pleases. After blending and straining is when the honey and/or salt may be ideally stirred in.

Amla juice may even be kept refrigerated, although it will go through some oxidation, and it is advised to prepare it fresh instead, if possible.

Care note: If one happens to suffer from reflux or acidity, Amla juice could aggravate the same.
