In Tamil culture, outside every house, there should be a coconut tree, amongst others. It’s very easy to plant a coconut tree. Choose a fallen coconut in which you can hear water slosh when you shake it. Leave the husk on. Soak it in a bucket of water for two or three days before planting.
Dig a shallow hole, burying only the lower third of the nut. Now be patient and wait for it to germinate.
In this way, you could plant a whole grove of coconuts!
Every part of the tree can be used, the tender coconuts, ripe coconut for oil, the leaves, the wood, the flowers are used for decoration, shells for handicrafts, the veins of the leaves are used to make broomsticks, the husks are used to make rope and cocopeat, etc, etc.
This tree is truly an amazing resource and even creates shades!
