Volunteering

VOLUNTEERING AT SOLITUDE FARM

Solitude Farm is happy to welcome anyone interested in Natural Farming and Permaculture & Sustainable Lifestyle. No previous knowledge is needed, all skill sets are valuable. At Solitude we run several projects that aim at reconnecting people with the earth, their food and with each other.

We’re happy to invite you to participate in farm work, the Café, communications and administration. Our work also includes CSA-Basket service, community garden projects, and running many music events, festivals & workshops.

The nursery, very much the engine of the farm, requires constant attention: mixing potting compost, seeding, transplanting, and taking care of the young plants. Volunteers can get involved with both seeds and the nursery in tasks such as seed saving, harvesting, drying seeds, maintaining the seed bank, and packing seeds for sale. Working on the field will give you a chance to explore mulching, harvesting, making beds, planting, chop & drop, fencing, and irrigation, which are some of the recurring activities that volunteers can be involved in.

Integral to the volunteer experience is the Solitude farm-to-plate cafe – where there are always opportunities to involve yourself in cooking, food processing, preserving, making ayurvedic powders, and even learning how to make vegan ice cream!

Volunteers will also have weekly opportunities to become involved in our weekly educational programs.

Volunteers will also have weekly opportunities to become involved in our educational programs: learning and teaching how to make soap, bio-enzymes, and recycling water, identifying and harvesting edible weed, and teaching how to make delicious salads.

Volunteers are asked to commit for at least one month and to be prepared to work Monday to Saturday, 8 am to 12:30 pm. A contribution of INR 500 per day includes basic accommodation, wholesome farm breakfast and farm fresh organic lunch on all working days and use of the community kitchen (on Sunday all meals are to be managed by the volunteers). The contribution you offer goes towards the basic maintenance and development of the farm (e.g. solar panels, water pump, roofs, huts, irrigation system etc), – all things which are needed for us to be able to host you!

Accommodation is very simple – 4-sharing dorms, thatched huts and a loft space. There is a compost toilet and showers are open to the sky (with walls!). This style of accommodation will put you in the right spirit to get back to Nature.
