CONCERT AT SOLITUDE
Music is an adhesive that binds society. Celebration is the golden key to permaculture that builds community. Krishna’s band Emergence which plays acoustic indo-pop, has recorded three albums (LINK) and has performed at Glastonbury Festival, UK, John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Washington DC, National University of Singapore. They have been featured in various TV shows, numerous festivals, and concerts in India.
After playing at exclusive venues in Mumbai, Krishna recognised that he could bring the same high quality of music back to Solitude Farm for his community and so he created Lively up Your Earth eco-music Festival an annual event which showcases upto 15 bands, numerous workshops, theatre, cooking demonstrations, kids activities and more , with more than 1500 festival goers this event is the cherry on the icing at Solitude Farm. Numerous other concerts have been hosted at the farm with artists from all over the world including Raul de Souza, Thallavatam, Mahesh Vinayakaram, Parvathy Baul etc Recently a Saturday Lunch Jazz Cafe has also started with Auroville musicians coming together to explore improvisation and supporting the musicians collective.
Emergence is an Indo-acoustic pop band from Auroville (Pondicherry), formed in 2006. Emergence is from Solitude Farm, a community started by Krishna McKenzie in the international township of Auroville, South India. We live a dynamic, alternative lifestyle, growing our food, creating buildings in natural materials, and running an organic restaurant. They promote active sustainability, giving workshops and hosting like-minded volunteers. Harmonic guitar textures and powerful lyrics blend with sublime Carnatic melodies played on violin and fused with Tamil. This, backed by the expressive grooves of rock, funk and ethnic rhythms and an explosive style of fretless and six-string bass, is the unique fusion that is Emergence. Emergence toured the UK in the summer of 2008, playing venues across the country. The tour culminated in several inspiring performances at Glastonbury, which led to invitations to play at major European festivals in 2009, including, Sunrise, Womad, Glastonbury and Festival de Nyon. After the UK tour, the band was invited to play at the JFK space centre (USA), after which they toured a few dates around the United States.
