Growing Pineapples

Planting cutting is a really easy way to start growing your own food. The pineapple is great example to start with.
When you are eating a pineapple, just take a moment to keep the head that you will cut off the top of it, because this is potentially a seed for a new Pineapple plant!
All it really takes is to put that pineapple head in the ground, buried in about an inch of soil and it will take root and slowly grow into a Pineapple bush. And in 1 year, this Pineapple bush will give you a Pineapple, going on to produce a couple more thereafter!
Those areas in a garden where there is some shade and where many other plants won’t do very well are actually quite suitable to Pineapple plants. They enjoy being watered occasionally, but will survive with fairly little moisture too – it just means then that they will fruit more slowly.
The fact that these are hardy plants, and also promising in terms of the taste of the fruits which they will produce, makes planting Pineapples an encouraging first step in growing one’s own food.
Wherever you see the heads of Pineapples, keep them, they’re a treasure. They are benevolent patrons on your first steps on your Road Back to Nature!
