Saving seeds is the pre-curser, to a whole civilisation. There are many steps, that must be followed to successfully save seeds.

Most importantly, the vegetable should be fully ripe, this means not harvesting every last vegetable but selecting a few of the best-looking ones for seeds.
The seeds should be removed and, in most cases, washed and dried, so they can be stored until the following season. We often coat cucurbit seeds with ash so as to prevent mold.

The seeds are then placed in an air-tight container; zip lock bag, or glass jar and stored in a dry place. These seeds are precious!

They can be shared with friends, schools, community projects, etc. When we understand that food is the lowest common denominator in any society, then we will understand that these seeds are the key to food security.
