The banana pith, also known as banana stem, is a vegetable obtained from the inner core of the banana tree. It is a fiber-rich food that supports weight loss and provides a plentiful supply of potassium and vitamin B6, essential for hemoglobin and insulin production.
While it boasts a high fiber content, proper preparation is necessary to enjoy its many benefits. Fortunately, the preparation process is fairly straightforward, and the rewards are truly remarkable.
The outer layer of the stem, is tougher and more fibrous, and is typically discarded as it is not commonly consumed. However, the inner part, known as the pith, retains its softer texture while still containing fiber.
To begin, chop the inner layer of the stem into small cubes. Submerge the cubes in water, then take a small stick, we can even use finger for this, place it in the center of the vessel. By rotating the stick, the fiber from the banana stem will adhere to it. Repeat this process several times until the desired amount of fiber is collected. At this point, the banana stem is ready to be transformed into a variety of delicious dishes.
By incorporating this incredible vegetable into our diet, we can relish its flavors while reaping the extraordinary benefits it offers.
