Chithirai Masam Ragi

027_Chithirain_Ragi___HD_720p(720p).mp4

Traditionally Tamil culture followed a Lunar calendar. The month of May corresponds to the Tamil month of Chitirai. It is in this season that we can harvest Ragi. Understanding the seasonal variations, the changes in weather patterns when to plant and harvest is obviously integral to preserving crop diversity and, thus, a healthy society that has access to good food throughout the season. In many cases, this is knowledge that has to be rediscovered. With more and more dependence on technology and mankind’s arrogant assumption that he can control nature, the intimate relationship between man and nature is lost. Watch video.
