Green Papaya Halwa

You must be thinking, “How can we make halwa from Green Papaya!, it will not be as tasty as Gajar ka Halwa!”

Let me tell you, to actually taste this goodness, you have to make and taste it yourself! You will be amazed after tasting this delicious halwa. You can either have it cold or hot, both will taste so good, that this will become a regular dessert after your meals!

At Solitude Farm, when we make this halwa, the whole cafe is filled with the aroma of cardamom. I would say, that’s the main ingredient in this recipe after green papaya. That’s the reason why cardamom is called the ‘Queen of Spices’. We make this in a huge quantity, as it is finished so quickly!

Green Papaya Halwa

Ingredients-

  • 1 medium green papaya, grated
  • ½ cup grated coconut
  • 1 cup water
  • ⅓ cup jaggery powder
  • ½ teaspoon cardamom powder
  • pinch of salt

Topping-

  • 2 tablespoons cashews, roasted and chopped

Green Papaya Halwa

Method-

  1. Place the grated green papaya into a pot and cook on medium flame for 15 minutes until soft. Keep stirring in between.
  2. Place the chopped coconut and water into a blender and blend until smooth.
  3. Once the papaya becomes soft, add blended coconut, jaggery powder and cardamom powder to the same pot. Stir and combine everything. Let it cook for 15 more minutes until all the milk is absorbed.
  4. Switch off the stove. Add salt and stir. Top it up with roasted cashews and serve.
  5. It can also be kept in the refrigerator for 1 hour and served cold.

Yet again, green papaya, a vegetable that grows in abundance, has no ecological cost, is high in medicinal and nutritional values and is so easy to grow, is the star of a delicious recipe! Try it to believe it!
