Manathakkali berries or black night shade berries
Manathakkali is synonymous with Tamil culture. While the leaves are used to make a delicious curry, the small black berries are delicious thrown in a salad or eaten just like that.
The green berries are toxic raw, but can be cooked in a tamarind based gravy.
The ripped manathakkali berry, helps in healing mouth and stomach ulcer.It also helps to improve eyesight, UTI and constipation.
This plant is wild and free. In cities kids, are not exposed to plants growing in the fields, their food is all packed and sold in shops.
Therefore, manathakkali is slowly being forgotten by the younger generations. The only way to regain this knowledge is to eat it, and for that we have to come to the land, back to the armsof mother nature and taste her blessings.
