Sweet and Crunchy Delight: How to Make Sesame Balls

Sesame balls, also known as “til ke ladoo” or “ellurundai,” are a delightful treat enjoyed in various cultures around the world. These small, round snacks are not only delicious but also easy to make at home. Let’s dive into a simple recipe to create these sweet and crunchy sesame balls.

Ingredients:

1 cup sesame seeds (white or black)

1/2 cup jaggery (or brown sugar)

2 tablespoons ghee (clarified butter)

1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder (optional)

Instructions:

Dry Roast Sesame Seeds: Start by dry roasting the sesame seeds in a pan over medium-low heat. Stir continuously to ensure even roasting. The seeds will become golden brown and release a nutty aroma. This should take about 3-4 minutes. Transfer the roasted sesame seeds to a plate and let them cool.

Prepare the Jaggery Syrup: In the same pan, melt the ghee over low heat. Add the jaggery (or brown sugar) and a touch of cardamom powder (for extra flavor if desired). Stir until the jaggery melts and forms a thick, syrupy consistency. This should take around 3-5 minutes.

Combine Sesame Seeds and Jaggery Syrup: Add the roasted sesame seeds to the jaggery syrup. Mix them thoroughly until all the seeds are well coated with the syrup. Turn off the heat.

Shape into Balls: Allow the mixture to cool slightly so it’s easy to handle. Grease your hands with a little ghee to prevent sticking. Take small portions of the mixture and shape them into round balls while they’re still warm. You can make the sesame balls as small or as large as you like.

Let Them Cool: Place the sesame balls on a greased plate or parchment paper to cool completely and firm up.

Now, your homemade sesame balls are ready to be enjoyed! These sweet and crunchy treats are perfect for festivals, celebrations, or simply as a delightful snack. With their nutty flavor and wholesome ingredients, they will surely be a hit with everyone. Store them in an airtight container to maintain their freshness for longer periods. Enjoy!
