With every aspect of living being commercialized, our food is filled with ingredients we don’t know. From ice creams to ice cream cones, everything is processed with sugar and chemicals. This Road Back to Nature is all about finding ways to reclaim our path, through little things. Banana leaves are integral to Tamil culture. They are used for plates, packaging, ayurvedic massage, to wrap around steamed vegetables and rice dishes and can even be used to make ice cream cones.
At Solitude, we were surprised to learn that we could make ice cream cones from banana leaves!
It is actually really simple! Just cut a square piece of the banana leaf from only one side of the stem, and twist it around to form a cone! Secure the tip of the cone, and the leaf intersection above with a toothpick. Scoop your ice cream into this, and you are good to go! This is fun, simple and when you are finished with the cone throw it in the field!
