Traditionally, peanuts were grown all over this bio-region. People were often paid in peanuts to help during the harvest season. When they were harvested, they were often boiled and eaten as a snack. Boiled peanuts have more antioxidants than roasted peanuts, and they make for an excellent snack.

Diverse recipes mean that local foods reclaim their place in our diets throughout the changing seasons.
The recipe for boiled peanuts is as follows.
- Wash the peanuts well.
- Slightly crack the shells.
- Add the nuts to a pot of boiling water, with salt.
